Your All In One Guide to “Santorini” – An Eternal Escape

Introduction

Santorini is one of those places, which is on everyone’s bucket list. It’s every photographer’s dream frame and every traveler’s fantasy land. It is one of those few, very famous and highly glamorized places that truly lives up to its name. Be it, it’s remote and isolated location or it’s completely non-existent everyday life hustle-bustle; Santorini fits the idea of a genuine luxurious leisurely getaway. This island has everything anyone can ask for. From the top names in hotels, award-winning Spa’s, Boutique hotels, Destination weddings & photography, Cave pools, Plunge pools, Cave rooms, Caldera-view Terrace jacuzzi; you name it, they have it.  But when you are traveling on a modest budget, planning a trip to one of the most-visited tourist destinations in the world might seem a little daunting.

Well, An Eternal Escape’s main motto is to share our experiences and research, which helped us to travel to the places we like, without having to dig into our pockets or compromising on our travel experiences. Here are few tips to help you ease you out of your pressure.

A quick disclaimer: This blog is not about the very abundant “Travel Santorini on a budget” claims. Santorini, without doubt, is a destination that goes a little too heavy on the pockets. But being clear on your ideas or hopes from the place helps keep the costs minimal. At the end of the day, every travel entails some impulsive indulgence which can’t be foreseen. But it does make up for the perfect funny stories in family get-togethers and dinners.

So, without further adieu:

Know the place before you start to plan:

Well, the first thing you need to put your hands on is the Island itself. Unlike many islands, Santorini is a municipality with 12 different villages. Fira is the capital of all. The other major villages are Oia, Imerovigli, Emporio, Akrotiri, Perissa, Kamari, Pyrgos and Therasia. Fira is the major transportation hub in the island with regular buses connecting to the other parts.

Fira, Oia, and Imerovigli are the famous mountain-cliff top villages with a commanding view of the Caldera. Perissa and Kamari are the celebrated Black-sandy beach villages of Santorini, while Pyrgos and Emporio boast spectacular Cycladic houses on mountain tops, just not on the cliffs. Akrotiri is the site of the archaeological excavation of the pre-historic Minoan settlement which was destroyed due to the volcanic eruption back in 1600 BC.
