Shopping in Santorini:
Other than Hotels on the island, the next best establishments are shops. Owing to the large population of tourists, there are shops catering every imaginable souvenir item you can think of. Shops range from known luxurious brands to special independent boutiques. Famous items on sale include gold jewellery, artificial beaded jewellery, shirts, sandals and much more. There are many beautiful pottery shops in the alleys as well.
The only one worth mentioning and the one that caught my interest was “Atlantis Books”. This particular bookstore from outside looks just like any other quirky store, but if you pass by this, I guarantee you; you will stop for a few minutes. The owners have taken special care to not leave a single nook and cranny of the shop unquoted. There are famous and catchy quotes painted on to the walls and anywhere for that matter. Don’t just stop to take the pictures from outside, venture inside and you will marvel at the collection of books they have. If not the quantity then you are sure to get open-mouthed by the quality of it and by quality I mean, literary quality. They have a rare collection of first-editions and signed books of many famous writers in many languages. It was only later that I found out that it is one of the “Top 10 bookstores in the world”. It’s built into a cave and has a very good caldera facing sunroof too, that you can use to read and order some drinks. It’s a paradise for book-lovers.
This guide is by no means a collection of all the things that are there to do or see in Santorini, but more like hand-picked ones by me for you. These are the lists that helped me plan our first trip to Santorini. Hope it helps you too to enjoy this Greek paradise to the fullest. Have a great time in Santorini.
